Michaela Rocks Her New Scrubs

It’s no secret that the nation needs more nurses. While Michaela was doing her best to become one, the demands of going to school and working to support herself started to be too much for her.

Luckily, a timely referral from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to our Wisconsin Innovation and Opportunity Act program made all the difference for Michaela. This energetic, compassionate, and dedicated young lady earned her degree with honors, got her RN license, and was also chosen for the honor of delivering the commencement address at graduation.

WIOA was there to help her pay for tuition, school supplies, gas, and even the state licensing exam fees. This gave her the time and space she needed to focus on finishing school, instead of worrying about how she could pay for everything. Equally important, she says that WIOA helped put another person in her corner that was there to offer encouragement and support through some of the toughest parts of nursing school.

Today, Michaela has a great job as a floor RN, and has enrolled in a program to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing through the University of Wisconsin. The future looks so bright for this determined person. As her WIOA Career Service Specialist says, it’s “amazing the strides someone can make when  you help remove small barriers so they can reach their dreams.”

Congratulations on your success, Michaela, it has been an honor working with you.
